This card performs both regulation and overcurrent protection functions. Short circuits are instantly cleared. The circuit breakers automatically re-close after a short period of time and if the fault persists they immediately re-open. While the operation is unlatched the let through energy is low. The protection offered is superior to a fuse which can not operate in shunt wound flameproof alternators.
